Home Organization Hacks

Remember that New Year’s Resolution you made to get rid of all that junk and clutter in your home? Well, we’re here to make sure you follow through with that resolution. We promise it’s not as daunting as it might seem! Having an organized home will set the tone for the rest of the year and help keep you stress-free. Keep reading so you can steal some of our top home organization hacks to eliminate clutter.

Keep It Stress Free

Take it easy, and start by focusing on one room at a time. Don’t begin with the worst room in the whole home or else you run the risk of a quick burn-out. If one room seems too overwhelming, remember it doesn’t all need to get done in one day! A deep cleaning of your home can be properly done in a week’s time. It doesn’t matter how small the steps are, just that you’re moving in the right direction!

The Method To The Madness

We recommend having a few bins or boxes with you to help with the organization process. One box or bag for trash, a second for recycling, a third for donation items, and a fourth for items that belong somewhere else in the house. This can help with keeping track of which items are going where. If you’re having a hard time deciding whether to keep or toss an item, pause to ask yourself if it sparks any joy. This is the Marie Kondo method of decluttering. If you don’t receive any joy from it, it might be something that can go. We are often not hanging onto things, but the emotions attached to those things. They may have brought you joy at one point, but not any longer. That’s okay! They have served their purpose.

Clean It Up

Clean as you go. Go through the clutter, and then take the opportunity to clean the space before putting things back in their place. This will freshen up your home, eliminating a lot of dust buildup as well! Decluttering your entryway and mudroom can be a satisfying start as well. These spaces are often magnets for clutter. Keys, mail, shoes, papers, can be found throughout this area, and the floor or shelving underneath can be pretty nasty! Purchase some decorative bins so everything has a home, put everything away, and wipe down floors and shelving to top it off.

An Extra Step

To add an extra level of freshness to your home, change out your HVAC air filters. Clean filters can create a fresher and healthier indoor environment for your family. Pair that with an organized home and your visitors will be impressed.

Storage Options

There are many great storage options available for the items you decide to keep. We often don’t think about the space under our beds, but it’s so useful! There are tons of boxes designed to slide right under your bed to fit the space perfectly. When paired with a bedskirt, nobody will even know it’s there! This is a good choice for items such as seasonal clothing, dress shoes, extra bedding, or other items you don’t often use.

If your kitchen counters are overwhelmed with clutter, consider adding shelving on unused walls. Stack your dishware or kitchen gadgets neatly for a clean display. This is a great choice for those with limited counter or cabinet space.
