Fun Things to Do Inside On A Cold Winter Day!

Is it too cold to venture outside and brave the weather? Try these fun activities to keep you and your family entertained while you wait out the winter temperatures! Whether you need a small activity or a more engaging project, we’ve got you covered with these fun things to do when it’s just too cold to go out.

Have a Baking Competition

A perfect way to enjoy your time inside is to not only make some delicious treats, but make it even more fun and engaging with a competition! No matter how many people live in your home, a baking competition is a perfect way to shake off any boredom and get the creative juices flowing. First, decide on a category for what you’ll be whipping up. Some of our favorites include different types of bread (banana bread, raisin walnut bread, apple cider bread), cakes (red velvet cake, mini chocolate lava cakes, cheesecakes), and cookies (pumpkin chocolate chip cookies, gingerbread cookies, or chocolate peppermint cookies!)

Next, divide some space in the kitchen, and select a judge to decide who has the tastiest creation! After all your treats are finished, come up with a prize for the winner and enjoy as a family! If you have young kids, be sure to check out some of our favorite kid-friendly recipes that are sure to be fun and easy for them to bake.

Rearrange Your Room or Redecorate!

Spending the day inside can be super beneficial for your living space if you’re in a productive mood! Take the time to finally rearrange your room the way you’ve been thinking about, and create the Pinterest-worthy space you’ve always wanted. Some great ways to spruce up your room to make it feel fresh is by moving some furniture such as a desk, dresser, or vanity to a new location with better lighting or space, or just to switch things around a bit.

Another easy way to vamp-up your room while stuck inside is to declutter and make room for more art, plants, and decorative books. Organize your belongings by planning out your space and using these tips to condense and make room for fresh pieces!

Learn a New Card Game!

Another way to have some easy family fun while stuck inside is to learn a new card game as a family or with your spouse. You can play them for a single round, or stretch them out over a long period of time by creating a tournament and play the whole day!

Spoon

One of our favorite games is Spoon, which is best enjoyed with a larger group. You might be familiar with this fairly easy card game, but it’s perfect for kids to play rounds and rounds of! Spoon is a very simple game so your family and friends can pick it up easily. You can play with 3+ people, but the more players you have, the better the game works.

First, place the same number of spoons down by the cards as you have players, and deal four cards out to each player. Place the leftover cards facedown in the middle of the players. The game starts with one person picking up a card from the middle, and they then have the option to either pass their new card to the person to their left, or to keep it and pass another one of their existing cards to their neighbor. The goal of the game is to get four cards of the same kind, so players will strategically pass their cards around as fast as they can in order to get their perfect combination of cards.

Once someone gets four of a kind, they can take a spoon from the middle, and then it is fair game for anyone who notices to take a spoon as well. The last person to pick up a spoon gets assigned a letter that will eventually spell “S-P-O-O-N.” After 5 rounds, the person who gets all the letters of “spoon” will lose. This is a fast-paced and hilarious game!
