High-Efficiency HVAC

Why Make The Upgrade To High-Efficiency HVAC This Spring?

Upgrading your HVAC system requires you to make a lot of decisions. One of them is which system you should choose. A high-efficiency HVAC system is the easiest and best choice, but it can be a hard one if you don’t have any knowledge of these systems. We’re here to help! Continue reading for the low-down on everything high-efficiency!

What Makes A System Highly Efficient?

The Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio is a measured ratio of cooling output. This is found by dividing the cooling output by the energy used by the system during summer. Essentially, the higher the SEER, the more energy efficient your HVAC system is. Another way to evaluate system efficiency is through Energy-Star ratings. Energy-Star is a voluntary labeling program developed by the U.S. Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to promote awareness of energy-efficient products. Keep an eye out for the Energy-Star label when shopping for your next HVAC system. This is an easy way to identify higher-efficiency products.

The Environmental Impact

It’s always nice to feel good about the impact you have on your environment. These systems don’t just talk the talk, they can walk the walk! High-efficiency HVAC systems have a much better impact on the environment than their less efficient counterparts. Inefficient systems use more electricity, which results in higher direct carbon emissions (not to mention higher energy bills). Switching to a newer, highly efficient system is also great for the ozone layer. Sounds crazy, right? Newer systems are often compatible with R-410A, an ozone-friendly refrigerant which won’t contribute to ozone depletion or climate change.

Energy Savings

While new high-efficiency HVAC installation is an investment, it can pay off over time. Customers who’ve switched to 20 SEER American Standard air conditioning systems have experienced an average of 50% savings. As these systems consume less energy to keep your home comfortable, you’ll notice lower electricity bills. The difference will be especially large over time if you’re upgrading from a very old system with an incredibly low SEER. With rising utility bills and energy costs, this is a great relief to have. Your highly efficient system will pay you back through the years.
