4 Ways to Lower Your Electricity Bill

Lower Your Electricity Bill

Heating and cooling your home, while necessary, can generate a pretty hefty number on your electricity bill each month. Without the right knowledge of how to control heating and cooling your home, you could be missing out on saving hundreds each year with small changes to what you’re probably already doing now. At Legacy, we care that our clients live comfortably and affordably. That’s why we’re sharing some cost-cutting tips to make doing that a little easier.

Keep Up With Your Thermostat

Living comfortably is largely influenced by the temperature at which your thermostat is set. In colder months, we highly recommend bumping the temperature down a few degrees from what you’re used to, and in warmer months, bump the temperature up a few  degrees. If you’re used to a comfortable temperature of 70, make a gradual accommodation of moving down to 68 in colder months and 74 in warmer months. These temperatures won’t take long for your body to get used to living in. You could even save around 10% on your electricity bill each month!

Legacy can also provide you with options for more efficient and effective technologies to lower your power bill. Our great American Standard smart thermostats can be controlled from your phone or tablet, from anywhere in the world. They’re perfect for keeping every room in your home set to your ideal temperature. After all, most of us are gone for 8 hours a day. With smart thermostat technology, you can save energy during the day while still coming home to your ideal environment. With these products, you’ll have the best of both worlds: comfort and efficiency.

Check Your Air Filter Regularly

Air filters are used to catch pollutants like dust, pet dander, and allergens circulating throughout our homes to keep the air we breathe safe and clean, as well as to keep our heating and cooling system running properly. Properly working equipment is essential in creating an energy-efficient home. When your system is working at optimum performance, it reduces the amount of work required and, in turn, less energy is generated, lowering your electricity bill.

Replace or clean your air filters every month to ensure clean, healthy air for you and your family.

Get Energy Efficient Equipment

Purchasing energy-efficient equipment is an investment, but often a very worthwhile expense.  Investing in a high-efficient comfort system for your home will save you money in the long run, and often pays for itself in energy savings. If you’d like to upgrade to more energy-efficient equipment, Legacy is here to help. We carefully consider every client’s unique home situation so we can recommend the best system for your home, your family, and your budget.

Our American Standard AccuComfort® systems automatically adjust to run efficiently, maintaining your ideal comfort level no matter what the weather is like outside. We stand by the American Standard product line since they are consistently rated best by Consumer Reports, are made with high-quality materials that will outlast the competition, and always perform quietly and efficiently. These systems are built to last, even in our unbearably humid climate.

Do the Little Things

Saving smaller amounts on your bill can also be achieved by doing the following:

      • Turning off lights, TVs, etc. in unused rooms
      • Bulk wash laundry in cold water.
      • Keep blinds and curtains closed when it’s too hot or too cold outside.
      • Swap out incandescent light bulbs in your home to energy-saving light bulbs.
      • Check the seals on doors and windows for air leaks.
      • Turn the system off and open doors or windows when the weather is comfortable.
      • Make sure your appliances are running correctly.
      • Use less hot water.
